As a Senior Government Affairs Associate at Pac/West Strategies, Brian Prater provides strategic insights, policy expertise, and support on government affairs projects to assist the team in meeting the needs of the firm’s clients. Prater offers his knowledge of public policy and the political landscape to support a wide variety of work including educational and political campaigns, strategic communication, community outreach, and government relations.

Prater joined Pac/West Strategies in 2023 as a Government Affairs Associate and has supported a wide range of government affairs activities during his tenure with the firm. Most notably, Brian helped facilitate the day-to-day operations of Colorado’s Wildlife Deserve Better, an issue committee that conducted a successful opposition ballot measure campaign in the 2024 Election Cycle to defeat Proposition 127—a proposed statewide ban on mountain lion and bobcat hunting Colorado. In addition to his work on ballot measure campaigns, Prater provides support on numerous projects in policy areas that include energy and agriculture.

Prior to joining the team, Prater served as a political consulting intern at GuidePost Strategies, a federal government affairs firm based in Washington, D.C. During his time at GuidePost, he provided strategic insights and developed comprehensive reports on congressional activities to help clients navigate challenges and achieve their goals in the public policy realm. It was in this role that Prater gained key insights into the federal legislative process and a passion for public policy.

In addition to his past professional experience, Prater is a proud graduate of Colorado State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in legal studies. As a long-time Colorado resident, Prater enjoys watching all things Denver sports and spending time with his friends and family.
